‘Indian elections are indeed miracle, created world record of 642 million voters': CEC Rajiv Kumar

A day ahead of the counting of votes, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar revealed that India has created a world record of 642 million voters, adding that the Indian elections are indeed a ‘miracle.’ The Election Commission of India also gave a standing ovation to all the voters who participated in the Lok Sabha elections 2024.

CEC Rajiv Kumar said, ‘Voters scripted history in 2024. Over 31 crore women cast their vote. We have created a world record of 642 million voters. This is 1.5 times voters of all G7 countries and 2.5 times voters of 27 countries in EU.’ He said over 68,000 monitoring teams and 1.5 crore polling and security personnel were involved in the world's largest electoral exercise. CEC said at the press conference, which is the first time for the poll body to hold such a post-election, pre-result briefing.

CEC further said that the voter turnout recorded in Jammu & Kashmir was highest in the last four decades at 58.58 per cent overall and 51.05 per cent in the Valley. He claimed that this is one the general elections where no major incidence of violence was reported and this required two years of preparation. He added that the poll body made a record seizure of almost Rs 10,000 crore during the election.

Praising the meticulous work of the election personnel who ensured fewer repolls, Rajiv Kumar said only 39 repolls took place in 2024 general elections as against 540 repolls in 2019. CEC also gave details about the counting process to be followed to declare the Lok Sabha elections.
