Narendra Modi signs first file on ‘Kisan Nidhi’ as PM for 3rd term

After sworn-in as prime minister for the third consecutive term on Sunday evening at a grand function in Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, PM Modi signed his first file authorising the release of the 17th installment of the PM Kisan Nidhi. 

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), launched in 2019, provides Rs 6,000 annually to eligible farmers, disbursed in three instalments of Rs 2,000 each, directly to their bank accounts. The move is expected to benefit 90 million farmers and entails distribution of around Rs 20,000 crore. PM-KISAN scheme is a central sector scheme to provide income support to all landholding farmers' families in the country to supplement their financial needs for procuring various inputs related to agriculture and allied activities as well as domestic needs.

Emphasizing the government's focus on agriculture, PM Modi said, ‘Ours is a government fully committed to 'kisan kalyan' (farmers' welfare). It is, therefore, fitting that the first file signed on taking charge is related to it. We want to keep working even more for farmers and the agriculture sector in the times to come’. PM Modi was sworn in as Prime Minister for a record-equalling third term, leading a 72-member Union Council of Ministers. The union ministers are expected to execute the Modi government's key agenda for the first 100-day roadmap over the next three months.
