The export of Oilmeals during May 2013 stood at 302,837 tonnes compared to 359,855 tonnes in May 2012, a decline by 16%, as per reports compiled by Solvent Extractors’ Association of India. This drop in export can be attributed to lower demand, especially from South Korea, Iran and Vietnam.
The exports of Oilmeal in the first two months of the financial year have been dropping. During April-May 2013, the total export of Oilmeals is reduced and reported at 502,005 tonnes compared to 762,945 tonnes during the same period of last year, down by 34%. During April-May Soybean meal is drastically reduced to 195,943 tonnes from 456,420 tonnes, while Rapeseed meal has maintained pace, Castor meal shipment has increased during May 2013.
The top 3 countries on import front during April-May 2013 were South Korea which reported import of 198,367 tonnes compared to 212,388 tonnes last year consisting of 68,158 tonnes of rapeseed meal and 130,209 tonnes of castor meal. Iran imported 148,234 tonnes compared to 150,974 tonnes, consisting 148,158 tonnes of soybean meal, and small quantity of rapeseed meal. Thailand imported 48,047 tonnes compared to 67,026 tonnes, consisting 9,166 tonnes of soybean meal, and 38,881 tonnes of rapeseed meal.
