The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi today extended Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal's judicial custody till July 3. The next hearing in this case is scheduled for July 3, coinciding with the expiration of Kejriwal’s current judicial custody.
Vacation Judge Nyay Bindu extended Kejriwal's judicial remand after he was appeared before the Court via video conference as his custody was set to expire on the day of the hearing. During the hearing, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) requested the court to extend Arvind Kejriwal's judicial custody, saying that it is crucial for the ongoing investigation into the alleged irregularities in the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy. While, Kejriwal’s defence, represented by advocate Vivek Jain, contended that the application lacked merit and opposed the extension of his custody.
The AAP national convenor had come out on interim bail till June 1 due to the Lok Sabha elections in the country, after which he had to go to jail again. Kejriwal is currently lodged in the Tihar jail. He was arrested by the ED on March 21 in a money-laundering case linked to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy.
