In order to curb food inflation, the government has allowed the specific quantity of imports of corn, crude sunflower oil, refined mustard oil, and milk powder under the tariff-rate quota (TRQ) system. India is a largest importer of vegetable oils such as palm oil, soyoil and sunflower oil and the top producer of milk.
The government has set import limits at 1,50,000 metric tonnes (MTs) for crude sunflower seed or safflower oil, 10,000 MT for milk powder, 4,98,900 MT for corn and 1,50,000 MT for refined rape, colza or mustard oil.
National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), National Cooperative Dairy Federation (NCDF), National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED), Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC), State Cooperative Marketing Federation & State Cooperative Civil Supplies Corporation shall be eligible for applying for TRQ.
