Apollo Pharmacy resolves issue with Ranbaxy Laboratories

14 Jun 2013 Evaluate

Apollo Pharmacy, the largest branded medical stores chain in the country owned by Apollo Hospitals, has resolved the matter with Ranbaxy Laboratories and will continue to sell its medicines from its outlets across the country. Last week, Apollo Pharmacy has temporarily stopped selling Ranbaxy Laboratories drugs. Apollo’s medical committee reviewed the matter, and as a cautionary measure, recommended the pharmacy to temporarily suspend sale of Ranbaxy medicines as it can’t take any chance with patients’ safety.

With this regards, Apollo Pharmacy had been working with Ranbaxy over the past week to validate the necessary documentation in line with quality standards followed by international quality certifying authorities. It has also understood the stance of the DGHS of India in this regard and received confirmation from them that there are no quality issues in the Ranbaxy products currently marketed in India.

Ranbaxy Laboratories’ troubles began since it pleaded guilty to felony charges in the US related to manufacturing at two of its plants. The company on May 13 agreed to pay $500 million to settle civil and criminal charges of making fraudulent statements to the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) and selling adulterated drugs.
