On account of higher output in key growing states Assam and Kerala pushed India's tea production estimates for April 2013 by 6% to 75.13 million kg, as compared to the corresponding month a year ago. Tea production stood at 70.99 million kg in April 2012. Tea output in Assam, which is a leading producer, rose by 16% during April to 41.87 million kg, as against 36.05 million kg in the same month last year.
The Production of tea in Kerala rose by 40% to 5.15 million kg in the month against 3.67 million kg in the year-ago period. However, Production of tea in West Bengal fell by 4.58 % to 11.67 million kg. Tea output is also fall in Tamil Nadu by 18.35% to 14.55 million kg. More than 80% of the tea is produced in northern parts of the country.
