United Phosphorus (UPL) has reportedly unveiled rice herbicide named ‘Saathi’ in the state of Uttar Pradesh, a major paddy producer in India. The product would control all types of weeds and cost about Rs 1,000 an acre, increasing the farmers’ profit margin. The biggest challenge for the paddy farmers was unavailability of labour to remove weeds.
Meanwhile, the company has launched an extensive campaign in UP to make paddy farmers aware about the product. The campaign would cover 21 districts and reach 500 villages, thereby influencing 25,000 opinion leader farmers.
Apart from agro chemicals, UPL offers hybrid seeds of vegetables, rice, maize, sunflower, mustard and fodder.
