The UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s first rally after recovering from an undisclosed illness was cancelled as she was unwell with viral fever. The rally was scheduled in Gauchar in Uttarakhand where Gandhi was expected to launch a major railway project. Defence Minister AK Antony, however, was deputed to read out her speech.

Congress President’s speech clearly targeted Anna and his team over their warning of campaigning against ruling government in the election-bound states. Gandhi, on recent monitions by anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare, said the government is committed to passing a strong Lokpal Bill in the Parliament and there was no need for "hue and cry" over the Lokpal Bill. "Corruption cannot be fought by speeches alone."

Gandhi’s rally was expected to be a virtual launch of the party's campaign for the upcoming assembly election in Uttarakhand which is governed by BJP and has earned praise from Anna.
