Union Minister George Kurian files nomination as BJP candidate from Madhya Pradesh

Union Minister George Kurian filed his nomination papers as a BJP candidate for the upcoming by-election to a Rajya Sabha seat from Madhya Pradesh. 

While filing the nomination papers, George Kurian was accompanied by Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav and State BJP chief VD Sharma at the state assembly complex. The BJP on Tuesday evening announced Kurian as its candidate for the upper house seat from Madhya Pradesh that became vacant following Jyotiraditya Scindia's election to the Lok Sabha.

After filing the nomination, Union Minister George Kurian said, ‘I express my gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central BJP leadership, Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav, state BJP chief VD Sharma and the entire leadership of Madhya Pradesh for suggesting my name and nominating me to the Rajya Sabha. I will definitely take the responsibility and serve the people of Madhya Pradesh’. BJP veteran, Kurian is the Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Farming. 

While, CM Yadav said, ‘We are fortunate that we are electing a popular leader from Kerala, Union Minister George Kurian. We have received our brother from Kerala who will represent us (in Rajya Sabha). He also expressed gratitude to PM Narendra Modi and party chief JP Nadda.

Madhya Pradesh has a total of 11 seats for the Rajya Sabha, of them, eight are from the BJP, and three are from Congress. The by-election to 12 Rajya Sabha seats will be held on September 3. The process of filing nominations started on August 14 and will continue till August 21. The BJP has already announced nine names for the coming by-election for Rajya Sabha.
