A day after the announcement of pre-poll alliance with Congress for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, National Conference (NC) vice president Omar Abdullah said that consensus on majority of assembly seats of Jammu & Kashmir has been finalized with Congress, while as a decision on few is yet to be done.
Omar Abdullah, who was accompanying, Sakina Itoo in Kulgam where she filed her nomination papers, said ‘Out of 90 seats the consensus on most of the seats is done, while the agreement on few is yet to reach to its final conclusion. On some seats we are adamant on our side, while on few the local leaders of Congress are inflexible. Today we are going to meet again to discuss the issue and finalise the alliance.’
When asked about the list of NC’s candidates, he responded, ‘Why are you concerned about that? Other parties are just now releasing the names of their constituency in-charges, while the NC’s constituency in-charges have been working for the past ten years.’ He said the party will make the list of candidates public before August 27. NC leader also added that the party has made public its manifesto and hoped the people will elect them to serve them.
The NC and Congress on Thursday announced a pre-poll alliance for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, which is going to polls for the first time since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019. The Congress and the NC had fought the Lok Sabha elections in alliance with each other. The National Conference won two seats - Anantnag and Srinagar. The Congress could not win any seat.
