Copper futures settled down on Friday on weak demand, even as investors anticipate further US Fed interest rate cuts amid softer-than-expected inflation data. US Core Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) showed a 0.1% rise month-on-month in August, falling short of the 0.2% expected and the 0.2% reading in July, as per data from the US Bureau of Economic Analysis. However, some falls were checked as top consumer China pledged more stimulus measures to help the country meet its growth target.
Copper futures for December delivery lost $0.0395 to settle at $4.5995 a pound on the Comex metals division of New York Mercantile Exchange. Copper on the London Metal Exchange was down by 0.97 percent at $9,982.50 a ton.
