A Raja, former telecom minister, made a plea few minutes before Special Judge O P Saini commenced formal trial. 2G scam accused Raja requested that he would not cross-examine prosecution witnesses unless the CBI probe is over in 2G spectrum case. However, the plea was dismissed by court.

'As soon as the investigation in this case, which started on October 21, 2009, is complete and all the statements as mandated in section 244 of the CrPC as supplied to the applicant, the right to recall the witnesses for cross examination will be exercised,' Raja said in an application to the court.

Senior Advocate Sushil Kumar, representing Raja, told court that investigating agency CBI has apprised the Supreme Court that their investigation in connection with Loop Telecom is going on. Kumar also mentioned that court should also ask CBI if investigation relating to all 17 accused is concluded.

Raja has been charged with criminal conspiracy for criminal breach of trust, cheating, forgery, accepting bribe/illegal gratification and misuse of office and is lodged in Tihar jail since March 2011 with his two former associates.
