Birla Corporation, the flagship company of M P Birla Group, in order to increase cement production capacity by 4.5 million tonnes (MT) would be investing close to Rs 2,500 crore over a period of three years. Of the proposed 4.5 MT, the company would be setting up 1.5 MT capacities at Chanderia in state of Rajasthan and 3 MT at Satna in Madhya Pradesh state.
The total cement production capacity of the company at present is 9.3 MT. The production at Chanderia was affected due to ban on limestone mining and the company would introduce mechanical mining once it receives the permission. The production of cement had been lower owing to the ban at Chanderia which led to lower capacity utilization. Besides, the company’s plans of setting up a cement plant at Ethiopia had been put on hold due to oversupply situation in that market.
Birla Corporation operates four division cement, jute, vinoleum and auto trim. It has eight manufacturing facilities located in Pune, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Gurgoan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
