Coal India plans to install GPS-based movement tracking system

Coal India, world's largest coal miner is planning to install GPS-based movement tracking system in order to boost efficiency at its major mines by March next year. It has already floated tenders for installing the tracking system. At present, state run firm struggling to meet production targets and plans to cover all major mines under the GPS-based movement tracking system after the Coal Ministry encouraged it for the same.

The company has reported production of 32.57 million tonnes in June 2013, as against target of 35.23 million tonnes. Meanwhile, the company’s total off-take for the month of June stood at 37.09 million tonnes as against a target of 39.85 million tonnes.
