Copper futures settled down on Wednesday as the US dollar gained overseas after the US inflation data for October showed an increase in line with market expectations. Moreover, weak demand prospects in the world’s top consumer China following the likelihood of hefty US tariffs on imports after Donald Trump’s presidential election victory kept copper and other industrial metals under pressure.
Copper futures for December delivery lost $0.0535 to settle at $4.0830 a pound on the Comex metals division of New York Mercantile Exchange. Copper on the London Metal Exchange was down by 1.04 percent at $9,047 a ton.
