Social activist Anna Hazare on Wednesday demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should step down from his post, accepting 'moral responsibility' for the coal blocks allocation scam while saying that there was clear evidence in the coal scam and that the Prime Minister should resign. Further, he said that there is no evidence suggesting that Modi is a communal leader, but he asked why BJP did not oppose the coal scam in Parliament in a forceful way.

The Gandhian Anna Hazare, suggesting a different system of election said that as long as the Prime Minister is affiliated to a political party, the country won’t get the right leadership and that the prime minister must be elected by direct election by the people.

Anna Hazare said that clarified that it was absolutely wrong to say that he was pro-Congressor pro-BJP or against any party. He warned that India too could witness a people's uprising like in Egypt if the Government crossed its limits and remained oblivious to its people's problems and said that the country may move towards the path of non-violent revolution.
