As per the latest 4th advance estimates of foodgrain production released by the Government, India has produced 255.36 million tonnes (MT) of foodgrains during 2012-13 compared to 259.29 MT in the previous year. The production estimates for major crops like Rice, Wheat, Coarse Cereals and Maize for 2012-13 stood at 104.40 MT, 92.46 MT, 40.06 MT and 22.23 MT respectively.
Similarly, the production estimates for Pulses, Tur, Urad, Moong and Gram stood at 18.45 MT, 3.07 MT, 1.90 MT, 1.20 MT and 8.88 MT respectively. Additionally, the production estimates for Oilseeds, Soyabean, Groundnut and Rapeseed & mustard stood at 31.01 MT, 14.68 MT, 4.75 MT and 7.82 MT respectively. Also, the estimates for cotton stood at 34.00 million bales (of 170 kg each) and for sugarcane stood at 338.96 MT.
