The Congress Working Committee (CWC) and the UPA Coordination Committee is likely to meet on Tuesday at 5.30 pm to decide on the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and creation of Telangana. In 2001, the CWC had passed a resolution asking for the creation of a state's reorganizing committee to pave way for the creation of smaller states, one of them being Telangana.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy and other Andhra leaders opposed the decision saying the bifurcation will cause water and power problems for the new state. Congress leader from Telangana V Hanumantha Rao demanded that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) should be created immediately. Meanwhile, anti-Telangana students held protests in front of the Congress MPs' houses demanding a united Andhra Pradesh.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Rajnath Singh said that the party is in favour of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and will definitely agree to the demand for a separate state. The BJP had decided this long back looking at the socio-economic condition and geographical situation of Telangana, a separate Telangana state should be formed.
