Asian markets traded mostly lower in early deals on Tuesday, saddled by the risk aversion in the market with the intensified geopolitical and trade tensions. Market sentiments dulled counting on potential impact of the latest tariffs imposed by the US President Donald Trump enacting 25% tariffs on steel and aluminium imports, with no exceptions or exemptions, indirectly affecting China. Investors also side lined ahead of this week’s key US inflation data and Fed Chair Powell’s testimony before Congress. Hang Seng retreated for the first time in four sessions with the negative global cues. Even though, losses were capped by optimism around China's AI sector. Japan's Nikkei is closed for national day holiday. Malaysia is closed on account of Thaipusam.

Straits Times down by 16.36 points 0.42% to 3,858.77, Hang Seng fell by 126.25 points 0.59% to 21,395.73, Jakarta Composite shrunk by 99.29 points or 1.49% to 6,548.85 and Shanghai Composite diminished by 5.34 points or 0.16% to 3,316.83.

On the flip side, Taiwan Weighted up by 86.84 points 0.37% to 23,338.98, and KOSPI Index increased by 22.05 points or 0.87% to $ 2,543.32.
