Copper futures settled higher on Monday after US President Donald Trump pushed forward his plans to slap tariffs on industrial metals. Meanwhile investors are awaiting a testimony from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and a reading on US inflation for cues on the interest-rate outlook. However some gains were limited by firm American currency overseas, which makes copper more expensive for foreign buyers.
Copper futures for March delivery gained $0.118 to settle at $4.7070 a pound on the Comex metals division of New York Mercantile Exchange. Copper on the London Metal Exchange was up by 0.43 percent at $9,447.50 a ton.
