Government releases Rs 600 crore funds so far this year under NAIS

The government has released funds to the tune of Rs 600 crore till July 31, 2013, under the National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NAIS). Similarly, funds amounting Rs 2,660 crore, Rs 360 crore and Rs700 crore have been released during 2010-11, 2011-12, and 2012-13 period under NAIS, as per information given by Tariq Anwar, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries.

As per scheme provisions, admissible claims are worked out based on yield data arrived from Crop Cutting Experiments (CCEs) and submitted by the State Governments. Normally, Agriculture Insurance Company (AIC) which is the Implementing Agency of NAIS processes the admissible claims within one month after the receipt of yield data from the concerned State Government.

Besides, claims if any are paid immediately thereafter provided the share of funds of the Central and State Government have been received by AIC.
