The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday accused the government of mismanaging the economy and questioned why the government is unable to control the price rise. In a debate on the economy in the Rajya Sabha, BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said that 'Prices of onion, petrol and beer are the same, Rs.75-80, and government of the day does not know how to control inflation'. The BJP leader further added that this was despite Prime Minister Manmohan Singh being an eminent economist and the problem was the prime minister is in the office but not in authority.
He further added that agriculture minister, Sharad Pawar had claimed the country had abundance of grains, but is unable to explain the rise in prices of food grains and this is just gross mismanagement of economy.
Participating in the debate, Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar said government was taking steps to control price rise and added that they remember bringing down the BJP government in Delhi over onion prices. Government is taking steps to contain inflation.
