CPI-based inflation for agricultural, rural labourers marginally down in July

The inflation based on consumer price index (CPI) for agricultural labourers (AL) and rural labourers (RL) has come down marginally in July, even the prices of food items and clothing remained high. The point-to-point rate of inflation based on the Consumer Price Index-Agriculture Labour (CPI-AL) and Consumer Price Index-Rural Labour (CPI-RL) slow down to 12.80 percent and 12.61 percent to 740 points and 741 points in July from 12.85 percent and 12.65 percent recorded in June.

The inflation based on food index for agricultural and rural labourers stood at 13.84 percent and 13.80 percent respectively, in the reported month mainly due to the increase in the prices of rice, wheat atta, meat goat, pork, milk, onion, vegetables, fruits, dhoti cotton mill and shirting cloth cotton mill etc.

The index varied from state to state and the index for agriculture workers recorded an increase that varied between 4 to 18 points in various states. Karnataka with 822 points topped the index table, whereas Himachal Pradesh with the index level of 583 points was at the bottom. On the other hand, the retail inflation index for rural workers registered an increase between 3 to 19 points in all states. Karnataka with 818 points topped the index table whereas Tripura State with the index level of 616 points stood at the bottom. Meanwhile, in July, Orissa and Tripura registered the maximum increase of 18 points each for agricultural labourers, while Tripura registered the maximum increase of 19 points for rural labourers.
