Asian markets trade mixed in early deals on Thursday

Asian markets traded mixed in early deals on Thursday, as lingering uncertainty over the US-China trade war sustained pressured major position taking. Meanwhile, Trump plans to exempt carmakers from certain tariffs after weeks of intense lobbying by industry executives, easing some concerns over trade tensions. Hang Seng tumbled the most among Asian indices snapping gains in the previous three sessions as investors took profits after the Hang Seng touched a three-week high. Bucking the trend, Japan’s Nikkei advanced for the second straight session. On the monetary policy front, the Bank of Japan is widely expected to hold its benchmark rate steady at 0.5% in its meeting next week. 

Hang Seng bearish by 267.33 points 1.23% to 21,805.29, Taiwan Weighted down by 171.93 points or 0.88% to 19,467.21, KOSPI Index decreased by 8.05 points or 0.32% to 2,517.51, and Shanghai Composite rose by 3.38 points or 0.10% to 3,292.98.

On the flip side, Nikkei 225 up by 199.28 points or 0.57% to 35,067.91, Straits Times added by 9.43 points or 0.25% to 3,841.75, Jakarta Composite increased by 23.63 points or 0.36% to 6,658.01, and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI lifted by 4.86 points or 0.32% to 1,506.05.
