Cotton acreage in Maharashtra has dropped by 6.3% due to last year's drought in the state. The Cotton sowing in second largest producer state has reached over 41.26 lakh hectare area till August 26 as against 38.64 lakh hectare area sown same time last year.
Further, many cotton farmers have switched to soyabean due to attractive oilseed crop prices last year. Meanwhile, large area under cotton crop in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra has been damaged due to huge rainfall in July.
