Suzlon to set up offshore wind energy projects in UK

17 Nov 2011 Evaluate

Wind turbine maker, Suzlon is planning to set up offshore wind energy projects in the UK, and plans to build a manufacturing facility on the coast to facilitate this.

Though through REpower, Suzlon has installed and commissioned 500 MW in the UK. However, the logistics and 150 m size of the rotor blade and huge turbines did not make it viable to build them elsewhere, so a port-based facility would be required.

Recently, REpower Systems SE, wholly-owned subsidiary of Suzlon Energy signed a framework contract with EDF EN Canada Inc. to supply a total of 75 wind turbines in the Canadian province of Quebec. This is the third order from the framework agreement concluded between EDF Energies Nouvelles and REpower in November 2009.
