Rupee weakens against US dollar on Thursday

The Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar on Thursday, driven by weak domestic equities following fresh geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and a lack of detail in the US-China trade deal. Fresh foreign fund outflows also dampened rupee sentiments. Foreign Institutional Investors offloaded equities worth Rs 446.31 crore on a net basis on Wednesday, exchange data showed. However, some falls were limited by weaker American currency with signs that US President Donald Trump is taking a conciliatory approach on tariffs and rising expectations of Federal Reserve rate cuts later this year.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 85.57, weaker by 4 paise from its previous close of 85.53 on Wednesday. The currency touched a high and low of 85.5775 and 85.43 respectively.
