The sowing of kharif crops has picked up and the acreage has been more than the 2012-13 numbers, as per reports received from different states. The total sown area as on September 6, stands at 1022.40 lakh hectare as compared to 965.84 lakh hectare at this time last year. Rice has been sown in 365.50 lakh hectare in 2013-14 as compared to 352.49 lakh hectare sown in 2012-13, while Pulses have been sown in 102.93 lakh hectare compared to 97.70 lakh hectare sown in last year.
Similarly, Coarse Cereals have been sown in 192.14 lakh hectare in 2013-14 as compared to 173.85 lakh hectares sown in 2012-13, while Oilseeds have been sown in 191.64 lakh hectare in 2013-14 as compared to 169.81 lakh hectare sown in the last year.
Besides, Sugarcane, Cotton, Jute & Mesta have been sown in 48.74 lakh hectare, 113.12 lakh hectare and 8.34 lakh hectare in 2013-14 as compared to 50.06 lakh hectare, 113.46 lakh hectare and 8.46 lakh hectare sown respectively in the last year.
