US markets end mostly in red on Friday

The US markets ended mostly in red on Friday as investors remained cautious following a report released by the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia indicated a weak regional manufacturing activity in the month of June. The report showed Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia’s diffusion index for current general activity was unchanged in June after jumping to a negative 4.0 in May, with a negative reading indicating contraction. Meanwhile, street had expected the index to rise to a negative 1.0. Additionally, traders keep a close eye on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran. The White House said a final decision on whether to support the Israeli military action against Tehran could come within two weeks. Moreover, traders’ risk appetite was subdued amid expectations of economic index to edge down by 0.1 percent in May after slumping by 1.0 percent in April.

Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 35.16 points or 0.08 percent to 42,206.82, while Nasdaq slid 98.86 points or 0.51 percent to 19,447.41 and S&P 500 fell 13.03 points or 0.22 percent to 5,967.84.
