Crude oil futures ended slightly lower on Monday amid concerns that heavy tariffs could weigh on the demand for oil and energy. Traders remained cautious after Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick described August 1, 2025, as a hard deadline for new reciprocal tariffs on U.S. trade partners to take effect. He also said that nothing stops countries from talking to US after August 1, but trade partners are going to start paying the tariffs on August 1, 2025.

Benchmark crude oil futures for August declined $0.10 or about 0.15% at $67.20 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude for September decreased $0.07 or about 0.10% at $69.21 a barrel on London's Intercontinental Exchange.
