The Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Thursday, tracking the weakness of the American currency in the overseas market. However, weak domestic equities, foreign fund outflows and uncertainties over the India-US trade deal have dented rupee sentiments and restricted further gains in rupee. Foreign institutional investors offloaded equities worth Rs 4,209.11 crore on a net basis on Wednesday, exchange data showed.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 86.33, stronger by 8 paise from its previous close of 86.41 on Wednesday. The currency touched a high and low of 86.3550 and 86.24 respectively.
