ISMA expects 2% rise in sugar production for 2013-14

17 Sep 2013 Evaluate

Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) has estimated 2% rise in sugar production for 2013-14 to 25 million tonnes (MT). The rise in production is mainly due to good monsoon this year, which could help augment the sugar production for the coming season. ISMA expects sugar output in Maharashtra, the country's largest sugar producer state, to be 7.8 MT. Further, sugar production in Uttar Pradesh, the second-largest sugar producer, may touch 7.7 MT.

Menwhile, India is likely to export 1 MT to 3 MT of sugar in 2013-14  to ease excess supply and tap rising demand from the Middle East and Indonesia.
