Asian markets traded mostly lower in early deals on Wednesday, as investors were caution ahead of a key Federal Reserve policy decision and ongoing Sino-US trade tensions. The uncertainty surrounding tariff negotiations and economic indicators contributed to the cautious sentiment in the markets. Technological sector stocks led the fall in the local indices, followed by consumers and property. Meanwhile, participants awaited official and private PMI data for July in China, as well as the Bank of Japan’s latest policy decision. 

Nikkei 225 fell by 26.55 points or 0.07% to 40,648.00, Hang Seng down by 128.45 points or 0.51% to 25,396.00, Straits Times dipped by 15.31 points or 0.36% to 4,214.10, Jakarta Composite curtailed by 53.93 points or 0.71% to 7,563.98, and FTSE Bursa Malaysia slipped 4.00 points or 0.26% to 1,519.82.

On the flip side, KOSPI Index up by 35.57 points or 1.09% to 3,266.14, Taiwan Weighted rose by 203.24 points or 0.88% to 23,404.76, Shanghai Composite added by 18.82 points or 0.52% to 3,628.53.
