Both Houses of Parliament adjourn for the day following Opposition’s uproar

Both the Houses of Parliament have been adjourned for the day after following opposition uproar over various issues.

When the Rajya Sabha reassembled after the first adjournment at 12 noon, the opposition members again started sloganeering over various issues including discussion on Special Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. After that, the Presiding Officer Ghanshyam Tiwari tried to run the Question Hour but the proceedings were disrupted following the opposition uproar. As the uproar continued, the Chair adjourned the House for the day. 

Earlier, when the House met at 11 AM, Deputy Chairman Harivansh informed that he had received 30 adjournment notices from different political parties relating to various issues, but the notices were rejected citing ruling. On the issue of Opposition demand of holding discussion on Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, Harivansh said that he cannot allow discussion over this matter as, Election Commission is a constitutional body and the matter is also subjudice. 

Harivansh also urged the protesting members to return to their seats and allow the House to function. However, the protests continued, the Deputy Chairman adjourned the House till 12:00 noon. The House could not function and both the Zero Hour and Question Hour were washed out.

The proceedings in the Lok Sabha were also disrupted due to the opposition uproar over various issues. When the House reassembled after the first adjournment at 2 PM, members of the opposition parties started sloganeering seeking discussion on SIR in Bihar.

Krishna Prasad Tenneti who was on the Chair urged the protesting members to allow discussion on the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2024. But the opposition members continued their protest, and the House was adjourned for the day.

Earlier, when the lower house met at 11 AM, speaker Om Birla tried to run Question Hour, but the opposition members started sloganeering over various issues including roll back of Special Intensive Revision in Bihar Mr Birla appealed to the opposition to allow Question Hour saying that it is an important business and the opposition must participate in it. He emphasised that Question Hour is an important business as it will strengthen democracy. The Opposition members continued their protest due to which the Speaker adjourned the House till 2:00 PM.
