Siemens consortium bags Chennai Metro power equipment contract

Chennai Metro Rail Ltd has awarded a Rs 305-crore contract for power supply and overhead equipments to Siemens AG, Germany and Siemens Ltd India consortium. Chennai Metro is implementing the Rs 14,000-crore metro rail project in Chennai. Siemens bagged the contract through international bidding process for the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of complete power supply systems covering elevated and tunnel sections of the metro rail system.

This contract also provides for setting up of three auxiliary gas insulated sub-stations at Koyambedu, Alandur and Chennai Central to step down the 110 kV to 33 kV for supply of power to stations, air-conditioning systems, tunnel ventilation systems, lighting and other utilities at the stations.

Besides setting up these facilities, the contract includes comprehensive maintenance till end of a defect liability period of two years after the completion of the project.
