Cement companies are likely to hike prices of the commodity by 7-10 per 50-kg bag in western region on the back of improved demand. Cement prices in Mumbai are around 270 per bag, while prices in Pune have also touched 260, and these will be hiked by 7. In Ahmedabad, wholesale price of the commodity is hovering around 245 per bag and is expected to be hiked by 10 from Thursday. Prices were hiked by 10 earlier in Ahmedabad on February 15.
UltraTech Cement, Ambuja Cement, ACC, Binani Cement, and India Cements are among the companies that have intimated stockists of this proposed hike. With the usual rise in construction activity during summer, prices of cement are expected to continue rising hereon until the onset of monsoon in June. In Ahmedabad, cement prices had slipped to around 150 in August from its peak of 225 in mid-May, owing to sluggish construction activity in monsoon and scarcity of sand.
