Asian markets traded mostly lower in early deals on Monday, saddled by the risk aversion in the market as fresh US-China trade frictions reignited. The downturn was sparked by the President Donald Trump's vow to impose massive tariffs on China, retaliating against Beijing's sweeping curbs on rare earth mineral exports-vital inputs for global manufacturing and technology industries. Sharp sell offs with profit taking in technological, and financial sector stocks pressured the local indices. Hang Seng plunged to the lowest level in a month, and extending the sixth straight sessional loss. Stock market of Japan is closed for National Sports Day holiday.

Straits Times tumbled by 50.30 points or 1.14% to 4,376.76, Hang Seng fell 733.32 points or 2.79% to 25,557.00, Taiwan Weighted slipped by 468.57 points or 1.72% to 26,833.35, KOSPI Index decreased by 50.75 points or 1.41% to 3,559.85, Shanghai Composite down by 33.64 points or 0.86% to 3,863.39 and FTSE Bursa Malaysia lower by 3.01 points or 0.18% to 1,626.66.
