Asian markets settle mostly down on Wednesday

Asian markets settled mostly down on Wednesday tracking Wall Street’s fall overnight as technology shares succumbed to heavy selling pressure on increasing worries over stretched valuations and AI bubble. Market sentiments weakened further as divisions within the Federal Reserve raised doubts about the prospect of further interest rate cuts, while signs that the US is edging closer to stagflation also kept sentiments under pressure. Japanese shares fell after the Bank of Japan's September meeting minutes showed that board members debated the growing case for a rate hike. Hong Kong shares declined after China's State Council's tariff commission said it would suspend an additional 24% tariffs on US goods for one year while retaining a 10% levy for certain goods. However, Chinese shares rallied despite an initial dip after a private survey showed China's services activity expanded at its slowest pace in three months. The RatingDog China General Services PMI, compiled by S&P Global, slipped to 52.6 from 52.9 in September, remaining above the 50-point threshold that separates growth from contraction.
