The exports of soyameal stood at 34.73 lakh tonnes (LT) during the 2012-13 marketing year (October-September) period which ended last month due to lower availability of soyabean for crushing as farmers were holding onto the stocks. This is a drop of around 4% as compared to the shipments which stood at 36.23 LT during last year, as per report compiled by the Soyabean Processors Association (SOPA).

Besides, the prices of domestic market were not in parity with the prices at global market. However, export of soyameal which is used as animal feed has increased sharply to 1.73 LT in September this year from 2,864 tonnes in the same month last year.

Further, exports during April-September this fiscal increased 4.68% to 8.76 LT from 8.37 LT in the same period last year. The major destinations for Indian Soybean meal exports during the current oil year (October-September) period were Iran, Japan, France, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Korea.
