UP Assembly passes state division resolution with a voice-vote

Resolution dividing the second largest state-economy - Uttar Pradesh has been passed in Assembly with a voice-vote. The UP assembly was adjourned sine die immediately after the passage of the resolution seeking to divide the sate.

At the start of session, SP, BJP and Congress MLAs passed a no-confidence motion and resolution on division of UP due to which the assembly was adjourned for an hour, also chief minister Mayawati was absent. However, as soon as session resumed, SP served a notice of no-confidence claiming it has support of all the opposition parties and 70 ruling BSP MLAs also, BJP too served a no-confidence notice. However, speaker Sukhdev Rajbhar assured that opposition will be taken up later as per rules. However, opposition created ruckus forcing the Speaker to defer the session.

Uttar Pradesh will be divided into four parts viz., Poorvanchal (East UP), Paschhimanchal (West UP), Bundelkhand and Awadh (central UP). Chief Minister has received her cabinet’s approval for the same on November 15, 2011.
