Nifty ends lower for third straight session on Wednesday

Indian equity benchmark -- Nifty -- ended lower for third straight session on Wednesday. Index made a cautious start following mixed cued from other Asian markets. Soon, index gained some traction and continued to trade in green. Investors opted buy fundamentally good stocks at lower levels. Some support came as the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in its latest Asian Development Outlook upgraded India’s growth projection by 0.7 percentage points to 7.2% for fiscal year ending March 2026 from 6.5% projected in September release. However, in afternoon session, market wiped out all its gain and started wearing near neutral line with negative bias. Market participants opted wait and watch approach ahead of US Fed’s rate decision later in the day. In last leg of the trade, market extended its losses and maintained it till the end of the session. Finally, Nifty ended below 25,800 mark.

Traders were seen piling up positions in Media, Metal and Pharma stocks, while selling was witnessed in Consumer Durables, IT, and PSU Bank. The top gainers from the F&O segment were Hindustan Zinc, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company and AU Small Finance Bank. On the other hand, the top losers were Kaynes Technology India, Dixon Technologies (India) and Multi Commodity Exchange of India. In the index option segment, maximum OI continues to be seen in the 25900 - 26100 calls and 25900 - 26100 puts indicating this is the trading range expectation.

India Volatility Index (VIX), a gauge for market’s short-term expectation of volatility decreased by 0.36% and reached 10.91. The 50 share Nifty down by 81.65 point or 0.32% to settle at 25,758.00.

Nifty December 2025 futures closed at 25857.00 (LTP) on Wednesday, at a premium of 99.00 points over spot closing of 25758.00, while Nifty January 2026 futures ended at 26026.10 (LTP), at a premium of 268.10 points over spot closing. Nifty December futures saw an addition of
