As per the reports received from different states, the total kharif sown area, stood at 1049.31 lakh hectare for the week ending October 11 as compared to 1005.34 hectare at this time last year. Rice has been sown in 379.92 lakh hectare in 2013-14 as compared to 372.90 lakh hectare sown in 2012-13, while Pulses have been sown in 106.65 lakh hectare compared to 101.66 lakh hectare sown in last year.
Similarly, Coarse Cereals have been sown in 195.93 lakh hectare in 2013-14 as compared to 177.72 lakh hectares sown in 2012-13, while Oilseeds have been sown in 194.94 lakh hectare in 2013-14 as compared to 177.11 lakh hectare sown in the last year.
Besides, Sugarcane, Cotton, Jute & Mesta have been sown in 48.74 lakh hectare, 114.67 lakh hectare and 8.47 lakh hectare in 2013-14 as compared to 50.06 lakh hectare, 117.29 lakh hectare and 8.60 lakh hectare sown respectively in the last year.
