Idea Cellular, the country’s biggest cellular carrier has reportedly received unified licence for seven circles. The Department of Telecom (DoT) has awarded unified licence to the company for Tamil Nadu, Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Assam, West Bengal, Kolkata and North East.
The company had applied for licences in seven circles after it emerged as the 2nd biggest winner in the November 2012 spectrum auction. The company has bagged spectrum for all the seven circles where its licences were cancelled, while licence in Bihar circle was unaffected by the Supreme Court order cancelling 122 telecom permits in the 2G scam.
Idea Cellular, an AV Birla group company, provides Global System for Mobile communications (GSM)-based wireless service at the pan-India level, it is present in all 22 telecom circles. The company has added 7.52 lakh mobile subscribers in August, 2013. Following the addition, the company’s total subscriber count stood at 12.60 crore with a market share of 18.69%.
