Rupee appreciates against dollar on Friday amid FII inflows

19 Dec 2025 Evaluate

Indian rupee appreciated against the US dollar on Friday supported by corporate dollar inflows and easing crude oil prices. Some support came as Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 595.78 crore on Thursday, according to exchange data. Besides, India has signed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with Oman. This free trade agreement will provide duty-free access to a host of Indian labour-intensive sectors, including engineering goods and textiles. On the global front, Japanese yen weakened against other major currencies in the European session on Friday, after the Bank of Japan raised its benchmark rate by a quarter-point as inflation remains stubbornly above the target.

Finally, the rupee ended at 89.65 (Provisional), appreciated by 55 paise from its previous close of 90.20 on Thursday. The currency touched a high and low of 90.30 and 89.25 respectively.
