15 Oct 2013 Evaluate

United Breweries is reportedly planning to take its beer-brand Heineken to more markets in India to get benefit from its growing demand in smaller towns in the country. Heineken, which is available in larger cities, has recently entered smaller cities like Nasik, Pune, Nagpur and Kolhapur.

Moreover, the company is planning to launch it into Kerala, one of the largest liquor markets in India. In this regard, the company has pointed out smaller areas like Kannur, Alappuzha, Thodupuzha and Pathanamthitta for the launch of its beer-brand.

Heineken, owned by the Dutch brewer Heineken International, has been domestically distributed by United Breweries in India since a year after it acquired a 37.4% stake in Vijay Mallya-led beer company, United Breweries, in 2008.

United Breweries is maker of Kingfisher beer and Heineken beer in India. Kingfisher is largest selling beer in India that commands 29% of market share. The company has presence in 52 countries.
