US markets end higher on Monday

The US markets ended higher on Monday, after trading under selling pressure in early trade, as stocks witnessed recovery over the course of the trading day. Dow Jones and S&P 500 reached at their new record closing highs. Traders were optimistic about the outlook for interest rates. While the Fed is widely expected to leave interest rates unchanged at its next meeting later this month. Besides, markets participants were braced for U.S. core Inflation data, which due later in a day. Investors overlooked Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell revealed that the U.S. central bank has been served subpoenas by the Department of Justice that threaten criminal charges, raising concerns that the Trump administration is trying to undermine the institution's independence. 

On the sectoral front, Computer hardware stocks traded with good strength and turned out to be the market's best performances on the day, with the NYSE Arca Computer Hardware Index spiking by 5.0 percent. Besides, gold stocks traded with notable gains with a sharp increase in gold prices, as reflected in the NYSE Arca Gold Bugs Index which rose by 3.5 percent.

Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 86.13 points or 0.17 percent to 49,590.2, Nasdaq rose 62.59 points or 0.26 percent to 23,733.90 and S&P 500 was up by 10.99 points or 0.16 percent to 6,977.27.
