Rupee weakens against US dollar in early deals on Monday

19 Jan 2026 Evaluate
The Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar in early deals on Monday, weighed down by higher crude oil prices overseas and sustained foreign portfolio outflows from the domestic equity markets. Foreign institutional investors offloaded equities worth Rs 4,346.13 crore on Friday, exchange data showed. However, some falls were limited by sell-off in American currency against major overseas rivals after US President Donald Trump announced imposing tariffs on European countries if they resist his plan to buy Greenland.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 90.81, weaker by 3 paise from its previous close of 90.78 on Friday. The currency touched a high and low of 90.86 and 90.65 respectively.
