Asian markets traded mixed in early deals on Friday, with the sharp technical selling in technology sector stocks, mixed earnings reports, and unchanged interest rates by the Federal Reserve. Market participants refrained from position taking ahead of China’s official January PMI data due over the weekend. Japan’s Nikkei advanced for a fourth straight session, ahead of their earnings report releases. Bucking the trend, Hang Seng plunged after seven consecutive gaining sessions. However, Hong Kong index is on track for its third consecutive weekly gain and its first monthly rise in four.

Hang Seng tumbled by 486.09 points 1.77% to 27,482.00, Straits Times down by 8.33 points or 0.17% to 4,921.70, Taiwan weighted declined by 257.36 points or 0.79% to 32,278.91, and Shanghai Composite decreased by 49.52 points or 1.19% to 4,108.46.

On the flip side, Nikkei 225 up by 9.40 points or 0.02% to 53,385.00, KOSPI Index rose by 28.91 points or 0.55% to 5,250.16, Jakarta Composite jumped by 107.63 points 1.31% to 8,339.83, and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI index added by 4.22 points or 0.24% to 1,735.11.
