Opposition protest lead to adjournment of both houses on day one of Winter Session

The winter session of Parliament commenced today and as expected the start was stormy as members created ruckus over various issues; owing to which both the houses are adjourned till tomorrow. Prior to offset of session, Prime Minister appealed for peace 'I sincerely hope that all political parties will realise that we have some very important pieces of legislation which are going to be presented in this session, and our country's sustained development and prosperity demands that many of those bills should be converted as acts of parliament,' he said.

In Lok Sabha opposition members targeted Home Minister P. Chidambaram over his alleged links in 2G spectrum scam. Chidambaram was to answer the first question of the day on Maoist violence, however, the opposition members created ruckus keeping him from speaking in the house. Besides pointing Chidambaram, opposition also took issues like Telangana separation, UP division and price rise. Rajya Sabha was adjourned to mourn the death of two members, Ram Dayal Munda and Silvious Condapen.

The smooth functioning of 21-sittings of Parliament’s winter session is very crucial as Bills bringing major amendments in country’s administration are to be passed. Most popular Lokpal Bill is on top priority and if government fails to pass the same during winter session, social meliorist Anna Hazare will once go on hunger strike. Other Bills like Food Security, Public Interest Disclosure & Protection to Persons Making the Disclosures Bill, the Judicial Standards & Accountability Bill are expected to be passed during this session.
